Levain Boulangerie Patisserie, Kuala Lumpur

YUM! I only discovered this bakery last Saturday and I've already visited three times. This cafe-bakery has a mix of Asian style sweet, light breads with an assortment of fillings as well as some French style breads - hearty, crusty, chewy. Loved the rye round, cranberry and rye bread rolls and multi-grain loaf. The reason I came back three times though is for the caramel nut Danishes! - light flaky pastries with very generous helpings of macadamia, walnut and cashew nuts in a runny caramel sauce heaped on top. The place was packed all three days I visited (morning and two afternoons). It is a great place to drop by for take-away or to sit and while away the afternoon with your purchases and a coffee at one of the bright and cheery tables.

Delucca, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Delucca in Changkit Bukit Bintang has had mixed reviews from my friends. Some say they've had super meals but it all depends on the mood of the chef. I've yet to be disappointed by their food. Perhaps I've been lucky in what I've ordered. Salads, pastas and fish are usually what I stick to and they've been fresh and tasty. Their specials change weekly and I appreciate the effort that is put into making changes for the better. It seems that every time I visit something new has been added. The reason why Delucca gets on The Yum List though is not because of the food but because it's a decent place to catch up with friends on a Friday or Saturday night, enjoy a glass of wine and listen to some live music. There are relatively few places to do this in KL, so Delucca gets points just for trying. I like the open feel of the place, the uncomplicated decor and the fun menus.

O' Gourmet, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Malaysia

O' Gourmet is a mouth watering find on the ground floor of Bangsar Shopping Centre. It is a whole area dedicated to stalls of fine foods. From coffee, bread, chocolate, pastries, wine, fresh produce, meats (great pork section), sushi, to herbs and spices there is more than enough here to meander for an hour or so salivating over the array of options. The cheese room is to die for. Cheeses from around the world, although mostly Europe and Australia, are all displayed in a lightly refrigerated room so that you can walk in and be with the cheeses. You can sample before you buy and they have a fromager on hand to help you with your selection. If you visit between 3 and 6pm, there is a sommelier available to guide you with wine choice and food pairings. Another highlight for me is the assortment of dried organic fruits with no sugar added. My coffee and fresh bread purchases have been most satisfying too. Yum!

Melawati Ramadan Bazaar, Taman Melawati, Malaysia

I've been hearing for a while now from local friends that the food at the Taman Melawati Ramadan Bazaar is the best in town. Finally yesterday I made it over there. There is stall upon stall of local food with the speciality seeming to be barbecued meats. It took me an hour just wandering around the rows before I even made a purchase. There is so much choice - it was a wonderful experience just seeing all of the dishes available and chatting with the friendly chefs. I couldn't help but sample a wide selection and brought enough home to feed hubby and myself for the rest of the week :-) My top picks are the tandoori chicken and the freshly made cane juice. The barbecued chicken wings come in at a close second. Best to get there right at four o'clock before it gets too crowded.

Restoran Kung Jung, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Restoran Kung Jung offers both Korean and Japanese cuisine. I went though for the Korean food - apparently this is the place where Koreans go to get a taste of home. Dishes are of traditional Korean style and the chef makes his own fresh noodles in house. Everything we ate from the set lunches was fresh and flavoursome. Floor to ceiling windows make the place bright and cheery during the day -ask for a spot by the window to get a view of KL tower while you dine. The service was excellent. We had three waiters attending us, explaining the food, stirring our rice and cutting our noodles. Pretty good stuff.
