58 Tour Eiffel, The Eiffel Tower, Paris, France

I couldn't resist posting this restaurant. The food is decent but it wouldn't ordinarily make The Yum List - the location is so fantastic though that this place is worth a visit. Set on the first floor of the EIffel Tower, you get a magical view of Paris at sunset. Wine, good food and a spectacularly romantic setting make 58 Tour Eiffel a great place to visit. The service was friendly, ambience fab and there was a surprisingly short wait time to get the lift up the tower to the restaurant.

La Grande Epicerie, France, Paris

This gourmet food store has just about every gourmet food product you could desire. Don't even think of entering this place on an empty stomach, or risk leaving with 100s of Euros worth of edible goodies. The photos above show just a small selection of what is available... unfortunately I was stopped by a rude security guard before getting a chance to snap some shots of the mouthwatering desserts. Prices here are above the average but it is definitely worth a visit and at least a little splurge.

Marché d’Aligre - Paris Street Market, France

One of the joys of eating around Paris is the number of fresh markets and great produce available at reasonable prices. Marche d' Aligre is a little off the tourist strip and full of local Parisians. The prices here are more reasonable than many of the markets easily accessible to tourists in Paris. The fresh market is open daily from 9am - 1pm, but there is also a covered market with more permanent stalls selling meat, fresh produce and cheese, which is also open in the afternoons from around 4pm. Apart from the market, this area is a lovely area to wonder around with a great chocolate store, many delectable bakeries and cafes with outdoor seating to watch the shoppers go by.

Chez Nous & Real Spelling, Cluis, France

A stay at Chez Nous, Cluis, France, is a satisfying adventure - both intellectually and gastronomically! I recently spent a week in Cluis, two hours south of Paris, France, learning about the orthography of the English language. You don't have to embark on the spelling journey, Chez Nous also offers rooms with meals. It is a popular stopover point for people travelling to the south of France, pilgrams, and many Parisians wishing to escape the big city for the weekend.

During my week with Melvyn and Pascal I enjoyed quail, quiche, prawn flambe, white bean and pork casserole, fettucine carbonara, artichokes, apple and pear tarts and an assortment of other mouth watering connections expertly prepared by Pascal. You eat with your hosts, who are most entertaining in both English and French. Meals always consist of a starter, a main, cheese, dessert and of course wine (of which Pascal makes an excellent selection - his favourites being reds from Beadeaux.) Bon appetit!
